3 Common Mistakes When Working with Crystals

Working with crystals is a powerful modality with very rare side-effects, so it is difficult to err gravely. However, there are common mistakes people can make, that compromise the integrity of the healing or the crystals themselves.

#1 Everything and the Kitchen Sink

With the wide variety of crystals to choose from it is tempting to want to throw everything in your therapeutic arsenal at a blocked chakra or physical complaint. For instance, a migraine can be soothed with Aventurine, Amethyst, Sugilite, Rhodochrosite, Jet, Lapis Lazuli, Rose Quartz, and the list goes on. Just because you can doesn’t mean you should. Using too many crystals at once can mutually exclude their wellbeing properties or overstimulate your chakra system. Instead, only try 1 to 3 crystals at a time. Particularly, if you are new to working with crystals and you don’t know what works best for you yet.

#2 A Fish out of Water

Enjoying a refreshing drink of crystal charged water or soaking in a bath of crystal water are simple pleasures that can significantly benefit your physical, spiritual, and mental wellbeing. Don’t be too hasty though, some crystals can disintegrate in water, while others can rust, and even more perilously, some crystals are toxic. If you want to explore bathing in healing crystals it is best to stick to the quartz family, amethyst, rose quartz, citrine, smoky quartz, and the like. Whereas if you have a thirst for crystal charged water, be sure to purchase your healing crystal water bottle from a trusted source.

#3 When the Sun Shines There is No Shade

Sunlight is a naturally effective way to cleanse and charge your crystals. However, just like us, too much sun can have repercussions.  Not all crystals fade in the sunlight, but to be safe, limit their sunbathing time to only a couple hours (1-2). While we all love watching our cherished crystals glisten in the sun, leaving them on the windowsill day in and day out could fade their beauty. It is work noting, a faded crystal still packs a healing punch. However, as any crystal lover will tell you, chromotherapy also plays an important role in the therapeutic power of these health-giving stones.
